Whilst in opposition, the Conservatives railed at Paul Martin for refusing to deregulate the banks. Now that our system has been shown to be somewhat better due to those regulations, Harper is running to Fox News and CNN taking credit for how Canada's tough stance on banking saved us while the deregulated US system went up in smoke. Next week he's off to the G20 Summit to blather about it like he invented the idea instead of lucking out on someone else's policies. Nor does he mention approving Flahrety's paving the way for US mortgage companies prior to the collapse. As well, we all probably know someone who is mortgaged up past the eyeballs thanks to Harper and Flaharety's moves to deregulate just prior to the US banking collapse.
