December 27, 2007Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated today in a suicide attack that also killed at least 20 others at the end of a campaign rally near the capital, Islamabad.

Benazir Bhutto's loss is a blow to democracy and to women around the world. I have long admired her for her tenacity and strength, and mourn her loss today.
