So you don't consider snow plow operation during a massive snow storm emergency services? The strike by snow plow operators in the middle of winter 2007 is exactly why essential services legislation is needed. Unions choose the MOST opportune time to strike. Most opportune for THEM to gain the most leverage even if it means holding people hostage to do it.

Also, the changes to the trade union act made in Bill 6 are miniscule.

Tempest in a teacup.

Mr. Crooks,

Thank you for participating in this blog. The strike you are referring to occurred in late 2006, and early 2007.

The snowplow operators returned to the job to plow the roads when a blizzard hit.

You need to get your facts straight - during the bargaining the union offered to stay on the job in exchange for the company taking the bargaining seriously - the employer thumbed their nose at the union, told them to hit the bricks, and said "we have contingency plan, we don't need you."

As we speak, the employer in the Nurses negotiations has tabled the worst package of cut-backs in the nurses History. All this, while there is a massive nurses shortage - how does that square?

As for your comment on the trade union act amendments - you are wrong, they violate the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. You have bought into the government's spin.

Again, thanks for your comments.

Well, I wasn't party to the negotiations so I can't say what the employer said. But the blizzard hit and THEN the operators returned to work because it looked bad, BAD on them.

I did not read any government spin, I went to the source and read the Trade Union Act, the amendments (Bill 6) and the Essential services act. Anyone can do that by going to http://www.legassembly.sk.ca/bills/default.htm.

Larry, reading your blog made me realize that you think the people of Saskatchewan are stupid. You are wrong. People of Saskatchewan are not dumb and we don't need these things spoon fed to us in the form of that juvenile poster.
